Friends, this morning I'm speaking to many of you, who are separated from family members, and not because of distance or death or disinheritance, but rather because of your stand, for the Lord Jesus Christ. And who's to blame for this family disruption and division, who takes full credit for separating husband from wife, father from son, daughter from mother, brother from brother, father from daughter, mother-in-law from daughter-in-law, etc, etc. The Lord Jesus says, I do. Within the Christian context, he said he would take personal responsibility and credit, for this division. In Matthew chapter 10, verse 34 through 38, the Lord Jesus states,"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me." And here in Luke 12, verse 51 through 53, Dr. Luke expands upon the words of the Lord Jesus by saying, "Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law." Again the Lord Jesus makes plain and crystal clear, that when he is Lord in the lives of those who truly know him, when he is truly first loved, in that father's life, in that mother's life, that will by definition create a division in the family. And this would be the sword that would divide husband from wife, wife from husband, brother from sister, mother from son, daughter from father, etc, etc, etc. Why? He said, it would divide the family. He didn't come to bring peace, in other words, it wouldn't be business as usual. When one of the family members would break from the ranks of religion, break from the ranks of Catholicism, break from the ranks of liberal Protestant churches, and truly come to know Christ on his terms, on biblical terms and grounds that would be definition, create a sword, a division, a split, in the family. |
