In Exodus 32, the scripture states, "And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him."
Here we have some clear and yet relevant examples, and parallels which include the peoples lust, their demands, their idolatry and their impatience, and the people's impatience here again parallels with our Lord's words in Matthew 24:46-51, "Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Take note of the similarities. The people during the time of Moses became impatient waiting for the return of Moses. The Lord states, if that evil servant shall say in his heart, my Lord delayeth his coming and begin to smite his servants and to eat and drink with drunkards, etc, etc, well when Moses descended from the mount of Mount Moriah we believe, you can be sure that the people were not looking nor expecting him, in fact, just the opposite. And as this wicked servant here, they were dancing, drinking, making merriment, total mockery of everything that they were saved out of and yet making mockery of everything that was sacred, and both the wicked servant of our text, in Matthew and those celebrating the golden calf in Exodus 32, met the same horrific fate. |
