The Bread of Life
Focus: My answer to “The Purpose Driven Church”
By Pastor Kenneth Hampton
Scripture Reference - Jude 3-4

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The godly men of yesteryear would often say regarding the religious heretic and his heresy; “If it’s new, it’s not true.” This would certainly apply to both the “The Purpose Driven Life” and “The Purpose Driven Church.” Remember friends, all heresies imitate from the first one; “…Yea, hath God Said…” (Genesis 3:1). Satan knew then as he knows now that in order to consign men to Hell, he must first call into question the infallible Word of the Living God; and he must do so very subtly. As it worked with Eve, don’t allow it to work with you also. Rick Warren states: “Jesus came to earth so we could fully understand God’s glory.” Excuse me! The Lord Jesus Christ can and did speak for Himself regarding why He came to earth; “For the Son of man is come to seek and save that which is lost.” “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (Luke 19:10; St. John 10:10). Rick Warren states: “Your personal testimony is more effective than a sermon.” Excuse me! Again, when the Scripture speaks let every lesser voice be silent. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God.” …it please God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe” (1 Corinthians 1:18, 21). Rick Warren states: “Before most unbelievers accept the Bible as credible they want to know that we are credible.” Excuse me! Jonah mostly certainly wished this was true. But the unbelievers in Nineveh came to the Lord not because of a bigoted Jonah, but in spite of the prophet’s negative behaviour. “To the Law and to the testimony; if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20). Shall we trust Rick Warren? “God forbid: yea let God be true, but every man a liar… (Romans 3:4).
